Prof. Kiran Bhujun serves as Director of Tertiary Education and Scientific Research at the Ministry of Tertiary Education, Science and Research of the Republic of Mauritius, a position he has held since 2016. His work focuses on the development and improvement of higher education policies and administration.
Throughout his career spanning over 27 years, Prof. Bhujun has worked across various sectors and institutions, gaining experience in policy development, academic administration, and project management. His diverse background includes roles in government, regulatory bodies, and educational institutions. Prof. Bhujun has had the opportunity to serve in several leadership positions within the education sector. As former Vice-Chancellor and Director of AMITY (Mauritius) and Director of AMITY Global Business School, he oversaw operations across Mauritius, Kenya, and South Africa from February 2020 to February 2022.
His experience extends to project management roles, including positions with the Prime Minister’s Office and as an international project manager for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mauritius. In this capacity, he oversaw and successfully completed multi-million rupees projects in Addis ababa, Australia, France, UK and South Africa. He has also worked as a Senior Engineer in the Ministry of Public Infrastructure, gaining practical experience in traffic management, building regulation, and contract administration. Prof Bhujun has also been the Secretary General of the National Commission for UNESCO and is currently the National Focal point of Erasmus+. Prof. Bhujun is interested in finding practical ways to improve institutional efficiency and better serve stakeholders. Prof. Bhujun holds qualifications in law, civil engineering, business administration, project management, and higher education governance. This diverse educational background has informed his approach to addressing challenges in various professional contexts. Prof. Bhujun is involved in social work and believes that individuals can contribute positively to society through dedicated effort. He values the concept of empowering others and often reflects on the idea that small actions can have a meaningful impact, as captured in his favourite saying: “A single candle can light the world.”
